Chinese Metaphysics: Astrology
“Astrology is a science in itself and contains an illuminating body of knowledge. It taught me many things and I am greatly indebted to it.” – Albert Einstein.
Until now it is not a known fact that Albert Einstein, a physicist, was a very skilful astrologer. Very few know of his link to astrology. Even what Einstein said about his gratitude to astrology is seldom quoted: “Astrology is a science in itself and contains an illuminating body of knowledge. It taught me many things and I am greatly indebted to it.”
It was documented that Isaac Newton used astrology too, to predict a major earthquake would hit London and an enormous thunderstorm would kill thousands. His prediction was placed in 1750, 23 years after his death. Not many even know of Einstein’s or Newton’s link to astrology. It is no wonder that astrology is not widely sought after in the Western world. No wonder cynical people assigned it to the world of occult.
Astrology and the Asian Way of Life Management
On the opposite side of the world, Chinese astrology plays a great role in life management and it is a way of life in Asia to obtain an annual reading of how the “new year pans” out for them. Deciphering the codes embedded within the eight characters of a birth chart brings to life the understanding of a whole new realm of possibility in the kind of path Asians want to take as they journey through life. Decoding their destiny is finding out what Heaven has in store for them. Destiny analysis is the diagnosis. Using Feng Shui to improve Earth Luck is the prescription. The astrological reading using the lunar calendar of the twelve zodiac animals is very popular with many lay people who want quick readings for a new year. However, those who prefer high level analysis relate better with Zi Wei Dou Shou – the 12 Palaces and BaZi, the Four Pillars of Destiny.
In both traditional systems, the birth data is used in the analysis. In the BaZi system, the 4 Pillars of Destiny relate to the year, month, day and hour of birth. Zi Wei Dou Shou charts show twelve palaces from which life and events are read. This system is also known as Purple Star Astrology – Zi Wei is the Emperor star.
In getting their birth data analysed using BaZi, the Four Pillars of Destiny, they get to know themselves, understand themselves better so that others get to understand them and then know them better. The key lies in the insights gained about their core values, traits, characteristics, personality and behavior. Knowing their destiny is getting to know their options, thus helping them to make choices. Not knowing their destiny gives them limited choices. Not having options to choose, they have to choose the best they can.
They also get to understand their limitations, weaknesses, flaws and also the self sabotages they carry making “stories” of past hurts and pain as excuses for not moving forward. They understand BaZi ( the eight characters in their destiny chart) can create strategies based on their natal charts. Delving deeper into their natal charts, the constraints imposed on their view of life disappear as they learn about clashes, destruction and combinations of Stems & Branches (Chinese astrology language).
Clashes and combinations in the chart tell a story of milestone events & people that they relate to in relationships, in mentorship, in upbringing, in parenting, in networking and in work situations. Their heritage, ancestors, grandparents’ social standing, noble assistance and penalties they carry are analysed when their charts are assessed and insightful information given.
Timing has its impact on their ten-year periods as well as yearly cycles, hence they want to know what kind of luck rules their current cycle and when do these cycles end. They are open to transformation when they discover a new realm of options. Knowing their options give them a greater sense of control and purpose. Insights into their capacity to achieve & deliver boosts their self-esteem especially the young professionals, career seekers and aspiring entrepreneurs who wait for favorable periods to seek career advancement or start a new business venture.
The older generation are more keen to know about health and well being and the state of their finances and opportunities for wealth accumulation and creation. The ability of BaZi to forecast and foretell upcoming events is a bonus many look forward to, to see the timing of their windows of opportunities and their chance to have a shot at fame and fortune.
The way BaZi analysis works for them is when their decoded destiny gives them the insights to stop feeling incomplete and unbalanced. Embedded flaws and limitations can keep the less confident from feeling perfect and whole. They learn in their stride through life how to add value to the vital missing link in key areas designing the life they want to live. When they choose a path of greater ease, following their strengths rather than lamenting about their limitations they learn to live life on their terms and not live life on other people’s terms (like following what other people are doing and saying.)
This Asian way of implementing life management offers better choices and well-timed decisions following the highs and lows of an astrological cycle happening every ten years of their life. When a view of events in their life emerges as the path of great resistance unfolds in upcoming periods of a bad cycle they learn about preparations to lie low and avoid carrying out ambitious plans to win big success. At the same time they make preparations to ride the tide when the upcoming cycle is favourable.
Stay curious. Learning is a journey. It is not a destination.
